How to object again

Application 21/03246/FUL | Works including slope regrading, rock bolting and soil nailing works to stabilise the existing quarry face | Residential Development East Of Fishmore Road Ludlow Shropshire.

A planning application for stabilising the edge that abuts the Castle View Meadow is on the Shropshire Council Online Planning Register and people can send in objections and comments via this link:

https://pa.shropshire.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=QVH65WTDGGI00

Although very detailed it is extremely technical and difficult for a layperson to understand, please do spend some time preparing your objection beforehand and have a look at the list below and see which topics concern you most and include them if possible.

• What safety precautions will there be for pedestrians on the public footpath through the field?

• Which trees will actually be coppiced, and which will be grubbed up?

• What measures will be taken to minimise disruption to the wildlife on the Meadow site?

• What proportion of the current meadow will be lost to the grading?

• What precautions will be taken to prevent damage to the meadow’s soil by heavy vehicles?

• Will the rubble and soil removed during the reprofiling of the slope be taken off site via the Terrace?

• How much of the historic wall will be taken down to allow vehicle access?

• Will any damage to the wall be reinstated?

• What will be the nature of any permanent fence erected to protect members of the public from the still significant drop down to the Fishmore development?

We understand that the deadline for objections and comments is the 9th August 2021.

Here are a few words of advice from Andy Boddington, Shropshire Councillor for Ludlow North:

"When local people look at a landscape, they see it through informed eyes. This is often the greatest contribution that residents bring to the planning process. They understand locality and context in a way a planning committee often cannot. Whether you wish to speak from the heart or write a technical letter of support or objection, your comments are valued.

Writing as a member of the planning committee, I can assure people that comments are read diligently by committee members. Even if we don’t agree with objections and letters of support, we do value hearing views."

There are some important things to note...

  • There is still time - comments will be considered right up to the point that the planning officer starts to the write the report.
  • You can submit further comments if you forgot to say something or if further information comes to light that you want the planning officer to consider.

  • To object to the planning application online, you will need to create an account on the Shropshire Council site; they will ask for your email and postal address
  • The Shropshire Council Online Planning Register site can 'timeout' if you take a long time writing your objection on the screen, so we recommend typing it into a separate document and saving it to your computer first.

More information is available here about how to use the Shropshire Council Online Planning Register

  • Postal objections should be sent Development manager, Planning, The Shirehall, Abbey Foregate, Shrewsbury SY2 6ND
  • Objections can be emailed to: planning.southern@shropshire.gov.uk

  • All objections must be individual - template letters and petitions only count as one objection.
